As you crest the hill and get your first glimpse of the Z's Great Escape, you are reassured that you made the right decision. You pour the first cup of coffee and carry it down to the water while the rest of the house is still waking up. This is the morning the whole trip ends up being built around. As you step out the back door and follow the tree lined path past the fire pit to the dock you feel your stress fade away - the lake is right there, flat and quiet before the days activities. This is what a vacation should feel like.
By mid-morning the place is alive. Someone is pushing a kayak off the dock, someone else is wobbling upright on a paddleboard, and the kids are already asking what's for lunch.
